Satisfied Clients
Chris and his team at Sage Landscape are the best. They've been improving my front and back yard piece by piece for the past few years, and everything looks amazing. I don't know how they do it, but after they work their magic, all the plants suddenly reappear and grow beautifully after a long winter of neglect. They also installed a paver patio for me last summer, and I love it. Chris pays attention to the little details with finesse, and he stands behind his work. I can't say enough about Chris and Victor. They work really hard and have turned my once ugly yard into a peaceful retreat that I'm proud to show off!

They arrived on time, were pleasant and knowledgeable. One man aerated the yard while one fertilized and seeded. I am pleased with the work that was done.

First time using Sage Landscape to perform a core aeration service for my lawn. After providing estimated square footage, they promptly provided a quote for their service and scheduled a day convenient for my schedule. They were highly responsive on all subsequent calls and email exchanges. Their crew arrived on time, were very professional and the work was thorough. I asked for more intense aeration in those areas undergoing full lawn restoration and reseeding, which they gladly performed. I will definitely use their services in the future.

About Us
Chris Wilson was drawn to the field of landscaping by his love for the outdoors, his passion for the natural environment and his interest in the diversity of plants. He began his career in 1986 working at Oregon Ridge Nature Park constructing hiking trails during his summer vacation. He also cut lawns in his neighborhood after school while attending high school and later UMBC. Chris further expanded his knowledge of plants and landscape design through self study and extensive touring of countless gardens and arboretums throughout the mid-Atlantic region. In 1997 Chris founded Sage Landscape. His vision was to design affordable, well thought out landscapes that would provide additional useful outdoor living space to fit the needs of his customers.
Staying true to Chris’s vision, Sage Landscape designs custom landscapes to fit any lifestyle and any budget. Our projects reflect our customers’ needs and desires while also providing a landscape that is low in maintenance and that minimally impacts the environment. Special attention is given to assessing water runoff issues and to choosing the proper plant for each location. We approach every project with thoroughness and professionalism.
After a project is completed, our maintenance team is available to keep the new landscape looking good. We perform all phases of maintenance including full lawn care and shrub care programs as well as programs to control weeds in planting beds and right-of-ways. We use integrated pest management (IPM) to minimize the use of pesticides and apply fertilizers responsibly.
Sage Landscape is committed to providing exceptional service and unparalleled reliability and integrity to our customers. Through our knowledge, experience and creativity, we give you our wisdom for your lawn and landscape.

How to Hire a Professional Landscape Contractor
Landscape companies, and landscaping in general, encompass many means and services. In your search for a landscape contractor, you will find that some companies specialize in specific areas (i.e., maintenance or paving) whereas others perform a myriad of landscape services. A good place to begin your search is with referrals from friends and neighbors who have used a professional landscape contractor. You may also consider contacting a property owner you are not acquainted with, but who has an obviously pleasing, professionally landscaped property, for a referral.
It is important to remember that landscaping, particularly landscape design and installation, is not a commodity for which a price tag can be easily attached. Purchasing landscape design and installation services might better compare to purchasing art. Landscapes that are pleasing to the eye, functional, and of lasting quality require professional design and installation. This is why many people choose to landscape their properties over a period of years, rather than all at once, so they can budget adequate funds to complete their work properly.
If you expect to hire a professional landscape contractor, you need to employ the techniques of a professional buyer.
Require proof of liability insurance and current workers’ compensation insurance.
Under some circumstances, you could be liable for mishaps or accidents which occur on your property.Require proof of Pesticide license and MD Home Improvement license. If required by state law, the company should be licensed or certified. This license will assure you that the contractor is accountable to you, that the company is knowledgeable, operating legally, and employs staff that have passed examinations demonstrating experience, knowledge and a level of professionalism.
Ask the company to provide a written plan and/or contract. Concerning guarantees ... Find out what is and is not covered and how long the guarantee remains in effect.
Prior to making any agreement, have the landscape contractor, designer, and/or architect prepare the details in writing. This plan can include the design, plant material to be used, all costs, a time table and the terms of payment. You have the right to amend the contract.
Know which services are provided in ongoing maintenance.
Ongoing maintenance is necessary in order to protect your investment. You can do it, or you can ask the company to do the work. Generally, ongoing maintenance involves mowing, fertilizing, pest control, shrub trimming, mulching, weed control, etc.
